I recently heard about this project that SOTA (The Society of Typographic Aficionados) is organizing. It’s called Font Aid V: Made For Japan. SOTA is asking designers to submit glyphs which they feel represent Japan. SOTA will then compile all those submissions into a font which will be sold with proceeds going toward relief efforts in Japan after the devastating tsunami and earthquake this year.

This is the fifth SOTA has organized a project like this (hence the “V” in “Font Aid V”). As described on their website, previous Font Aids have raised funds to help war and disaster refugees, September 11 victims, and also after the earthquake in Haiti in 2010.
